What is a williamson turn?

A Williamson turn is a standard maritime maneuver used to reverse a vessel's course precisely, typically for man overboard recovery. It involves turning hard over to one side, then, after a specific heading change (often 60 degrees from original), turning hard over to the opposite side. This brings the vessel back on a reciprocal course, crossing its original track.
