Can you rinse out a gas can?

Rinsing a gas can with water is generally not recommended. Gasoline and water don't mix, and water can cause rust inside the can, contaminating future fuel. For cleaning, it's safer to use a small amount of fresh gasoline as a rinse, then dispose of it properly.
